Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an Elevator Technician to inspect, maintain and repair elevators, escalators and related equipment in university-owned buildings on a campus-wide basis.

Under general supervision, you will respond to service calls, document maintenance activities, and assist in parts replacement and procurement. A high school diploma or GED and a Texas driver’s license are required, with education in lieu of experience considered. Security checks may be required.

  • Education in lieu of experience allowed
  • Technical certification or licensing related to the job preferred

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and performs scheduled preventative maintenance in elevators, escalators, lifts, and related components
  • Responds to call-back/trouble calls and restores equipment to safe operating condition
  • Operates elevator trade tools and equipment such as voltammeter, amp probe, Meggers, tachometer, rotation meter, soldering irons and related devices
  • Provides supervisor with repair, inspection test and preventative maintenance reports
  • Assists supervisor in ordering of supplies and replacement of parts
  • Maintains equipment machine rooms, pits and car tops in safe condition; may perform cleaning and painting duties
  • May be assigned to special task force during emergencies (floods, storms, hurricanes)

Description

Under general supervision, performs repairs and maintenance onelevators, escalators, dumb waiters and lifts in university ownedbuildings. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No.GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access tocritical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain thesecurity or integrity of the University infrastructure. Thisposition requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determinewhether or not criminal history or continuous connections for thegovernment or political apparatus of a foreign adversary mightprevent the employee from being able to maintain the security orintegrity of the infrastructure.

  1. Inspects and preforms scheduled preventative maintenance inelevators, escalators, lifts, and related components.
  2. Responds to call-back/trouble calls in a timely manner andrestores equipment to a safe operating condition.
  3. Operates tools and equipment common to the elevator trade,such as voltammeter, amp probe, Meggers, tachometer, rotationmeter, soldering irons, solid state logic probes, lap toptroubleshooting computer and numerous power and hand tools.
  4. Provides supervisor with repair, inspection test andpreventative maintenance reports.
  5. Assists supervisor in the ordering of supplies andreplacement of parts as needed.
  6. Maintains equipment machine rooms, pits and car tops in safeand working condition; may do cleaning and painting duties.
  7. May be assigned to serve on special task force during periodsof emergency, such as floods, storms, hurricanes, etc.

High School Diploma or GED Required

THIS JOB REQUIRES A VALID TEXAS DRIVER'S LICENSE.

Department is willing to accept education in lieu ofexperience.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuationand simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. asmight normally be acquired through attainment of a high schooldiploma or GED. Education verification will be conducted uponacceptance of an employment offer.

Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directlyjob-related experience.

Preferred: Preferred a minimum of two (2) years of directlyjob-related experience. Requires technical certification orlicensing directly related to the job, as specified on a jobdescription addendum.
