Job description

At JOCO, we empower gig workers to complete last-mile deliveries by removing all the hassle of owning, storing, charging, and maintaining E-Bikes. Since our launch in late April 2021, we’ve helped thousands of couriers complete millions of deliveries and have partnered with major players in the delivery market. We're growing rapidly across the US and are looking for an exceptional Product Engineer to help build the software that powers our business.

This role is based in NYC and in-person 5 days a week. This is a hybrid product management and engineering role for someone who thrives on taking ideas from conception to execution. You'll identify problems, design pragmatic solutions, and build and ship products yourself—ranging from customer-facing applications to internal tools that help us operate more efficiently and scale. We're looking for a highly autonomous, technically exceptional builder who moves quickly, takes initiative, and leverages AI extensively to accelerate development.

What you will do:

  • Own the entire product development lifecycle, from identifying opportunities and understanding user needs to designing, building, deploying, and iterating on solutions.
  • Design and build customer-facing products and internal operational tools that directly improve the experience of our riders, partners, and employees.
  • Obsess over the customer, developing a deep understanding of their problems and building pragmatic, intuitive solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Work closely with Operations, Strategy, and other stakeholders to identify business challenges, translate loosely defined requirements into product specifications, and independently execute on solutions.
  • Architect and implement scalable software systems and infrastructure that support JOCO's growth across markets, customers, and fleet operations.
  • Build software that solves real-world logistics challenges, including workflow automation, operational optimization, and human-in-the-loop processes.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools and coding agents extensively to accelerate development, automate workflows, and maximize individual productivity.
  • Make independent technical and product decisions, balancing speed, scalability, technical complexity, and business impact.
  • Continuously improve existing products and systems, identifying opportunities to simplify workflows, eliminate manual processes, and improve the customer experience.
  • Take full ownership of the quality, reliability, and performance of the products you build, from initial deployment through ongoing iteration.

What you will need:

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, product engineering, or a similarly hands-on technical product role, with a demonstrated track record of independently shipping successful products.
  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup, with a proven ability to build products from scratch and operate effectively with limited resources and oversight.
  • Strong full-stack engineering capabilities, with experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade applications across the frontend, backend, databases, and APIs.
  • Demonstrated product judgment and customer empathy: you understand who you're building for, why a product matters, and how to measure its impact.
  • A track record of independently owning projects end-to-end, from product discovery and technical architecture through implementation and launch.
  • Deep proficiency with AI-powered development tools and coding agents, with a demonstrated ability to incorporate them into daily workflows to dramatically accelerate development.
  • Exceptional initiative, resourcefulness, and autonomy. You don't wait to be told what to build—you identify problems, propose solutions, and execute.
  • A bias toward action and speed, with the ability to balance engineering quality and technical complexity against the need to ship quickly and iterate.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to engineers, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent product intuition and attention to detail, with a passion for building intuitive, high-quality user experiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do mentality: no job is too big or small, and no challenge is insurmountable.
  • An exceptional work ethic, relentless drive to succeed, and willingness to take responsibility in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience building software for logistics, marketplaces, mobility, or other operationally complex businesses is a plus but not essential.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Exposure to JOCO's growth through equity ownership.
  • The unique opportunity to take enormous ownership of JOCO's product and technical direction, building software that directly impacts thousands of users and the operations of a rapidly growing business
  • A high-autonomy environment where you can move quickly, experiment, and ship products without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000
