Job description

OVERVIEW:

Primarily responsible for exercising safe driving practices while operating a Tractor Trailer or an Ottawa unit to move trailers within the plant grounds. Ability to operate a tractor to bring trailers from the remote lot to the plant. This position moves trailers throughout the shift in and out of the Shipping doors and ensures that the trailers in the yard are arranged properly.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

1. Comply with all Department of Transportation regulations.
2. Perform and document pre-trip inspections (tires, oil, fuel, lights, brakes, hoses, etc.).
3. Ensure secure loads before movement.
4. Maintain proper documentation (equipment, time, trips, weight, etc.).
5. Clean and wash the truck as necessary.
6. Report truck and equipment maintenance issues to the supervisor.
7. Comply with all DOT safety rules, company policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
8. Work nights, weekends, holidays, and long shifts.
9. Perform any other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum 21 years of age.
2. Valid Class A CDL with a 1-year verifiable satisfactory driving record (preferred).
3. Knowledge of Department of Transportation, State, and Federal Laws.
4. Ability to read and write legibly.
5. Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
6. High School Diploma or equivalent.
7. Previous experience driving live poultry tractor-trailers.
8. Basic math skills.
9. Adherence to DOT, State, and Federal laws, and company safety policies.
10. Wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Sit and drive for up to 10 hours; climb in and out of the truck cab regularly.
• Wear assigned PPE.
• Lift up to 75 lbs.
