Job summary

Durham Exchange Club Industries (DECI) in Durham, NC, is seeking a Job Placement Coordinator to help individuals with disabilities find meaningful, competitive employment across Durham, Alamance, Orange, and Person Counties.

As a career coach and community connector, you will develop relationships with employers, conduct job development, assist with applications and resumes, and implement individualized training plans.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of successful work experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to become certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI-A) techniques.

  • Assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining meaningful, competitive employment.
  • Develop relationships with local employers and identify employment opportunities that align with participants' skills, interests, and goals.
  • Conduct job development activities, including innovative job carving and customized employment opportunities.
  • Participate in person-centered planning meetings and collaborate with sponsoring agencies to maximize each individual's vocational success.
  • Accompany individuals to interviews and assist with applications, resumes, and employment preparation.

What You’ll Do

As a Job Placement Coordinator, you will serve as a career coach, advocate, trainer, and community connector, helping individuals achieve their employment goals while partnering with local businesses throughout Durham, Alamance, Orange, and Person Counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining meaningful, competitive employment.
  • Develop relationships with local employers and identify employment opportunities that align with participants' skills, interests, and goals.
  • Conduct job development activities, including innovative job carving and customized employment opportunities.
  • Participate in person-centered planning meetings and collaborate with sponsoring agencies to maximize each individual's vocational success.
  • Accompany individuals to interviews and assist with applications, resumes, and employment preparation.
  • Match candidates with employment opportunities and work toward established annual placement goals.
  • Analyze workplace tasks and conduct job task analyses to support successful training and onboarding.
  • Develop and implement individualized job training plans and workplace interventions.
  • Provide hands-on coaching, instruction, and support to help individuals learn job duties and meet employer expectations.
  • Promote strong work habits, workplace professionalism, and career readiness skills.
  • Assist individuals in achieving independence and long-term employment success.
  • Identify and secure appropriate workplace accommodations and assistive technology solutions.
  • Facilitate weekly Job Club meetings, sharing employment leads, job-seeking strategies, workplace success tips, and supportive peer networking opportunities.
  • Provide training, consultation, and support to employers, employees, families, advocates, and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, reports, and database records in accordance with DECI, CARF, Vocational Rehabilitation, and funding source requirements.
  • Maintain professional communication with individuals served, families, employers, referral agencies, and DECI staff.
  • Attend required trainings and maintain all required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Advocate for individuals receiving services and assist with referrals to community resources when appropriate.
  • Provide limited transportation support and help participants establish reliable transportation solutions.
  • Represent DECI within community organizations and employment-related initiatives that promote opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
  • Maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and North Carolina-approved behavior intervention techniques.
  • Stay informed about current industry trends, best practices, and workforce development strategies.
  • Assist with staff training and serve as a resource for new team members.
  • Provide coverage and support for other Program Services staff as needed.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends based on participant and employer needs.
  • Maintain accessibility to employers and individuals receiving services through a company-approved communication device when required.

  • Fluency in English to effectively communicate with individuals, employers, and community partners.
