Job summary

DrFirst is seeking a skilled Java engineer to design, build, and operate cloud-native microservices for real-time clinical workflows. You will develop EHR integrations and event-driven architectures using Kafka and modern AWS services.

Fluency with AI-assisted development, strong security practices, and collaboration with product and DevOps are essential. This remote-first role offers growth in a scalable healthcare IT platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
• 3+ years of hands on Java development with Spring (Boot/Cloud).
• 3+ years building cloud native apps on AWS (S3, Lambda, RDS, EKS/ECS).
• 3+ years with Kafka and event streaming.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML.
• Relational and NoSQL DB experience; CI/CD familiarity.
• Security awareness with authentication/authorization/data protection.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants in workflow.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy high quality Java services powering real-time clinical workflows.
• Build cloud native microservices on AWS with auto scaling and self-healing.
• Develop and maintain EHR integrations across major systems using HL7, FHIR, NCPDP SCRIPT, REST, and Mirth Connect.
• Build event-driven architectures on Kafka for reliable inter-service communication.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment workflows.
• Create AI-powered automation frameworks to accelerate development and testing.
• Use Claude and other AI tools for code generation, refactoring, and documentation.
• Monitor and resolve production performance issues using observability tools and logs.
• Enforce secure coding practices and participate in security reviews.
