Job summary

The Salvation Army in Topeka, KS is seeking a full-time janitorial/maintenance worker to uphold safety, cleanliness, and appearance of building interiors and grounds. You will perform cleaning tasks, assist with donations, and support seasonal activities while coordinating with management on facility needs.

This role requires physical effort, ability to work with diverse groups, and a commitment to the Salvation Army mission.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED preferred
Janitorial/maintenance experience preferred but not required
Use of basic hand tools
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, stairs, restrooms and office space
Empty all trash, break down cardboard
Inspect and notify management concerning needs for major repairs, safety or security issues
Advise supervisor of janitorial and building supply needs
Remove litter and cultivate flowers as assigned
Follow schedule for cleaning windows, furniture, and floors polishing
Set up furniture for meetings as required
Assist with unloading and storage of donations
Assist with seasonal activities and assistance

Job Objective: Maintain property and grounds accordance with acceptable standards of safety, cleanliness and appearance. Properties include building, grounds and equipment serving the building.

Essential Functions:

Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, stairs, restrooms and office space
Empty all trash, break down cardboard
Inspect and notify management concerning needs for major repairs, safety or security issues
Advise direct supervisor of janitorial and building supply needs
Remove litter and cultivate flowers as assigned
Follow schedule for cleaning windows, furniture, and floors polishing
Set up furniture for meetings as required
Assist with unloading and put away of any donations received
Assist with seasonal activities and assistance

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Janitorial and maintenance experience preferred but not required

Ability to organize and carryout work plan with minimum supervision
Ability to work with different socioeconomic groups

Driving:Employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment and some outdoor activities.
