Responsibilities

• Moves furniture and equipment to access areas to clean.
• Removes stains from rugs, walls, and floors with cleaning solutions.
• Seasonal tasks such as sweeping walks and removing snow when needed.
• Vacuuming all carpeting and spot-cleaning as required.
• Clean glass on lobby doors and wipe surfaces and tables.
• Empty waste baskets and restock restroom supplies.
• Sanitize toilets, basins, and urinals; mop floors with disinfectant.
• Maintain janitor’s closet and equipment; attend safety meetings.

Job Summary

It is the intent of the basic job requirements, duties, and responsibilities that any building be kept neat and clean at all times. These minimum requirements should be referred to as a guide, rather than a limitation to the services required to maintain a building effectively. Staff will be required to perform the necessary work to maintain the optimum level of cleanliness in every building or worksite serviced by FlagShip.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
• Uses ladders to dust and wash walls, cleans ceilings, dusts and polishes light fixtures.
• Washes and replaces blinds; moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas.
• Removes stains from surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• Performs incidental seasonal tasks such as sweeping walks, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow.
• Vacuum all carpeting and spot‑clean soiled areas on carpets as needed.
• Clean glass on lobby doors, wipe and clean tables, chairs, vending machines, appliances, sinks, and countertops.
• Empty waste baskets, replace liners, and refill restroom dispensers as needed.
• Sanitize toilets, basins, and urinals; sweep and mop floors with disinfectant.
• Dust and clean tops of office furniture; dust high partitions, ledges, and interior partition glass.
• Apply and remove protective applications on walls, floors, and equipment.
• Maintain janitor’s closet neat and orderly; properly maintain all equipment.
• Perform periodic training and safety meetings.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of basic janitorial duties and responsibilities is very helpful. Must have good listening and verbal communication skills. Some positions require the ability to speak/understand English. Must maintain a neat appearance and wear a uniform at certain worksites. Must attend periodic training and safety meetings. Must be able to understand and anticipate the needs of the clients and be punctual.

Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred. 6 months of experience in commercial facilities and building janitorial work desired.

Work Environment

Small-to-large office environment. Safety glasses required while performing certain tasks. Fast‑paced work environment. Noise level is usually moderate. Exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, cleaning products, and noise. Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds and heavy use of cleaning equipment.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, sit for long periods; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift and move a minimum of 40 pounds of office and facilities equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
