Job summary

North Texas Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a Jail-Based Assessor/Care Coordinator to provide jail-based assessments and care coordination. The role centers on bridging incarceration and outpatient care with trauma-informed, resilience-oriented services across NTBHA’s six-county region.

The position requires collaboration with jail staff, courts, and community providers, ensuring continuity of care from intake to discharge and into outpatient engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, behavioral health, or related field.
• At least one year of experience in a law enforcement or correctional setting involving direct care with incarcerated individuals.
• At least two years of outpatient mental health experience with severe mental illness and substance use disorders, or two years with a master’s degree.
• Experience in psychosocial education, skills training, or teaching.
• Experience with treatment teams that develop and monitor treatment plans for severe mental illness and substance use disorders.
• Knowledge of the Texas criminal justice system and NTBHA service area.

Responsibilities

• Use NTBHA’s approved curriculum and assessments with clients in accordance with their abilities and mental health status.
• Assist incarcerated clients in accessing appropriate mental health services and facilitate their release to ensure continuity of care.
• Monitor client’s progress and report to NTBHA and partners regarding mental health needs.
• Develop rapport with justice-involved persons using Motivational Interviewing.
• Coordinate with courts, jails, attorneys, and administrative systems involved with incarcerated clients.
• Prepare and maintain records, files, and reports within NTBHA and partner agencies.
