Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior infrastructure engineer to design, implement, and sustain DoD information systems within the NMCC. You’ll manage VMware and Nutanix environments, ensuring compliant, secure, and highly available infrastructure that supports mission requirements.

The role requires DoD-level cybersecurity experience, certifications, and a strong background in Windows/Linux administration, with readiness for after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years related experience; or Master’s with 10+ years.
At least 10 years of infrastructure-engineering with emphasis on VMware/Nutanix.
Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II or higher certification.
Active VMware Certified Professional (v6.0+) and Nutanix certifications.
Experience in a DoD/defense-contractor environment and familiarity with DISA/STIGs & NIST SP 800-171.
Strong cybersecurity, operational requirements, and DoD environment knowledge.
Proven ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, manage, and monitor DoD information systems within the NMCC.
Design, implement, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure and virtualization environments.
Engineer and support VMware and Nutanix environments (compute, storage, network, security).
Install, configure, administer, upgrade, and maintain VMware infrastructure.
Install and maintain Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow.
Ensure system architecture supports mission requirements and reliability.
Administer Windows Server and Linux environments; monitor performance and capacity.
Coordinate with cybersecurity, network, and program teams; provide after-hours support when needed.

Job description

Design, implement, manage, and monitor existing and new information systems within the NMCC
Design, implement, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure and virtualization environments
Engineer and support VMware and Nutanix environments, including compute, storage, network, and security components
Install, configure, administer, upgrade, and maintain VMware virtual infrastructure
Install, configure, administer, and maintain Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow
Design and maintain computing infrastructure supporting mission and operational requirements
Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux operating environments
Analyze system performance, infrastructure capacity, availability, and reliability and recommend improvements
Diagnose and resolve complex virtualization, server, storage, networking, integration, and performance issues
Establish and maintain configurations consistent with DoD cybersecurity and Information Assurance requirements
Implement and manage systems in accordance with DISA STIGs and NIST SP 800-171
Support infrastructure modernization, upgrades, technology refreshes, migrations, and lifecycle management
Support integration, installation, testing, deployment, sustainment, and lifecycle management of infrastructure solutions
Analyze customer and mission requirements and recommend system architecture, infrastructure, hardware, software, and virtualization solutions
Develop and maintain system architecture diagrams, network diagrams, engineering plans, configurations, implementation documentation, SOPs, and technical artifacts
Support Assessment and Authorization activities through required engineering and system documentation
Support configuration and change-management processes and maintain infrastructure documentation
Coordinate with customers, mission partners, cybersecurity personnel, network and system administrators, data-center personnel, vendors, and program offices
Assist with outage resolution and after-hours troubleshooting to maintain system availability, reliability, and mission readiness
Communicate complex technical information to technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Requirements

Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of related experience; a master’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of related experience; or additional relevant experience that may be accepted in lieu of a degree
At least 10 years of infrastructure-engineering experience with a strong focus on VMware and/or Nutanix environments
Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II or higher certification, such as CompTIA Security+
Active VMware Certified Professional certification, version 6.0 or higher
Active Nutanix Certified Professional or Nutanix Certified Systems Engineer certification
Verifiable experience working within a DoD or defense-contractor environment
Strong understanding of operational, mission, and cybersecurity requirements associated with DoD environments
Deep knowledge of enterprise virtualization technologies, including VMware and Nutanix
Strong hands‑on expertise with Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow
Proficiency administering and troubleshooting Windows Server and Linux environments
Hands‑on experience implementing and managing systems compliant with DISA STIGs and NIST SP 800-171
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent collaboration skills and ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Ability to work effectively across engineering, cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, operations, and program teams
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Willingness to provide on‑call or after‑hours support when required by mission needs
Experience with infrastructure‑automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform preferred
Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell preferred
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including switching, VLANs, firewalls, and micro‑segmentation preferred
Experience working within air‑gapped or classified network environments, including SIPRNet preferred
Experience supporting virtual desktop infrastructure using Omnissa preferred
Knowledge of the Air Force, Pentagon, and/or AFNCR mission and operating environments preferred
Previous experience working at Joint Base Andrews, the Pentagon, and/or Joint Base Anacostia‑Bolling preferred
