Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks a senior systems engineer to lead OS installation, configuration, monitoring, and support for VMware, SAN, and appliance-based systems. You will provide expert end-user support during core hours and participate in on-call rotations after hours and weekends.

Job description

• Lead operating system installation, configuration, monitoring, and support for VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems


• Provide expert-level end-user support during core hours and rotational on-call support after hours and on weekends


• Spearhead hardware and software change-management procedures, collaborating with the Change Advisory Board as needed


• Troubleshoot and coordinate computer hardware repairs with vendors


• Analyze new server hardware and software requirements, propose upgrades, and devise and test deployment strategies


• Harden servers to established security baselines and maintain patch levels


• Support Cyber Security Specialists during incident response activities


• Manage maintenance tasks and maintain inventory records for servers, equipment, and software


• Develop and maintain standard procedures for routine and recurring activities


• Lead backup and restore support, monitor backup-environment health, conduct annual restore tests, and troubleshoot failed database backups and restores


• Assist end-users during escalated incidents


• Coordinate with vendors to upgrade and patch hardware and software

Requirements

• U.S. Citizen requirement


• Must pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust (Tier 4)


• Extensive experience in a multi-platform computer center environment


• Proficiency with VCenter, SAN Management, and iLO/iDRAC


• Ability to quickly acquire, comprehend, and apply knowledge from technical manuals and SOPs


• Expertise with VXRail, vSAN, Windows, Red Hat Linux, VMware, Microsoft Azure, HPE servers, Splunk or SolarWinds Orion, DataDomain backup appliances, Veritas NetBackup, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Ping Identity, Corestreet HID appliances, OCSP authentication support, RSA SecurID, ADFS, Microsoft Certificate Server, and Microsoft KMS


• Proficient knowledge of LDAP, DHCP, and DNS


• Proficiency in Perl, PowerShell, Windows scripting, and standard shell scripts


• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills, with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities


• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.


• Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and kneel to move equipment and set up workstations


• Must present acceptable identification for customer badging and site access, such as a REAL ID-compliant driver license, U.S. Passport, or other approved GSA document
