Job summary

EnTech Engineering, PC seeks an IT Support Specialist to join our Albany-based team serving a public-sector client and supporting a broader managed-services operation. The initial focus is migrating a Microsoft 365 tenant and decommissioning on-prem servers, then transitioning to remote support with on-site coverage in Albany as needed.

The role requires hands-on technical work, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work evenings or weekends during cutover windows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in desktop support or IT operations.
• Resident in the NY Capital Region within roughly 30 minutes of Albany 12205.
• Hands-on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration.
• Windows 10/11 troubleshooting; Windows Server and Active Directory familiarity.
• Networking fundamentals: DNS, DHCP, VPN, basic switching and wireless.
• Willing to work scheduled evenings and weekends during cutover windows.
• Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and work in server rooms and under desks.
• Comfortable being the only technical person in the room with a client.

Responsibilities

About The Role

EnTech is hiring an IT Support Specialist based in New York’s Capital Region to support a public-sector client in Albany while contributing to our wider managed-services support operation. The first phase of this role is hands-on: helping migrate a client agency to a new Microsoft 365 tenant and retiring their on-premises server infrastructure. Once that work completes, the role shifts toward remote support across EnTech's client base, with continued on-site coverage in Albany as needed.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Migration and Decommissioning Phase

• Re-join and re-enroll end-user workstations to a new Microsoft Entra ID tenant; validate profiles, applications, printing and drive access afterwards


• Provide on-site support during cutover windows, including scheduled evenings and weekends


• Inventory on-premises servers, network equipment, printers and line-of-business applications; track each dependency to its disposition


• Physically decommission retired equipment: decabling, secure data destruction, asset disposal records


• Walk users through changes at their desk and absorb the first-line questions that follow a cutover

Ongoing Client Support

• Serve as the on-call on-site presence for the Albany client, responding within agreed timeframes for issues that cannot be resolved remotely


• Administer Microsoft 365: user lifecycle, licensing, Exchange Online, SharePoint and Teams, MFA and conditional access


• Maintain endpoint security agents, patching compliance and device inventory


• Keep documentation and asset records current


• Work tickets across EnTech's client base remotely, to published response and resolution targets


• Handle user onboarding and offboarding across our identity and SaaS platforms


• Escalate cleanly, with the diagnostic work already done

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years in desktop support, help desk or IT operations


• Resident in the NY Capital Region — within roughly 30 minutes of Albany 12205 (Albany, Colonie, Latham, Guilderland, Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park) — with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s licence


• Hands-on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD) administration


• Windows 10/11 troubleshooting; Windows Server and Active Directory familiarity sufficient to decommission them safely


• Networking fundamentals: DNS, DHCP, VPN, basic switching and wireless


• Willing to work scheduled evenings and weekends during cutover windows, and to be on call


• Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and work in server rooms and under desks


• Comfortable being the only technical person in the room with a client

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct tenant-to-tenant or on-premises-to-cloud Microsoft 365 migration experience


• Public-sector or government client experience


• MSP or managed-services background
  
• Microsoft certifications (MD-102, MS-102, AZ-104) or CompTIA A+/Network+


• Familiarity with endpoint management, identity platforms or ticketing systems
