Job summary

Plano ISD is seeking an experienced Technology/ IT Project Specialist to lead and support bond-related technology projects across the district. You will collaborate with Project Coordinators, vendors, and IT teams to keep initiatives on schedule, on budget, and aligned with specifications.

The role requires strong knowledge of project management methodologies, construction drawings, structured cabling, AV systems, and network infrastructure, with a focus on delivering reliable district-wide

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management or equivalent experience.
  • Project management certifications (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Agile or Kanban methodologies.
  • Experience reading construction drawings and understanding specs.
  • Familiarity with IT structured cabling design and network infra.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing and managing multiple concurrent IT projects.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation: plans, status, changes, diagrams.
  • Collaborate with vendors/contractors on project specifications.
  • Work with technical teams to resolve IT issues and keep projects on track.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and obstacles to stakeholders.
  • Attend OAC meetings, site visits, and field reporting to verify objectives.
  • Facilitate vendor commissioning, training, and owner hand-off.
  • Conduct post-project reviews and capture lessons learned.
  • Support ITIL processes and ensure changes are well communicated and documented.
  • Keep up-to-date diagrams and documentation for all technology implementations.

Job description

Primary Purpose

Manage and support technology bond-related projects across the district. Work closely with Project Coordinators and technical teams to ensure projects are completed on time and according to specifications. Projects may involve construction/renovations, structured cabling, AV systems, infrastructure upgrades, and others

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management or equivalent experience
  • Project management certifications (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge and experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Kanban)
  • Knowledge and experience with project management tools (e.g., Monday.com, Smartsheet)
  • Knowledge and experience reading and understanding construction drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge and experience with IT structured cabling design (fiber/copper/outside plant)
  • Knowledge and experience with MDF/IDFs and network infrastructure technologies
  • Knowledge and experience with technology systems upgrades
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Experience
  • Three years of experience managing IT projects
  • Three years of experience managing projects in K12 education preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assist with organizing, and managing multiple concurrent projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project plans, status reports, change orders, network diagrams, as-builts, and other relevant records.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors on specifications for upcoming project
  • Collaborate with technical teams to resolve information technology issues
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and key stakeholders on project statuses, risks, and/or obstacles to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Attend OAC meetings, perform site visits, and conduct field observation reporting to ensure all project objectives are being met according to specifications.
  • Facilitate vendor commissioning, training, hand-off, and owner acceptance.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to assess project success, identify areas for improvement, and document lessons learned for future projects.
  • Supports integrated ITIL processes with Incident, Change, and Problem Management. Ensure all changes are well communicated, coordinated, and documented.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation, including diagrams, on all technology implementations.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence in the team's knowledge of and concern for educational and business needs
  • Be customer service oriented and maintain a professional approach regarding all district matters.
  • Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.
  • Perform R&D and remain knowledgeable of emerging trends in technology and education, and keep abreast of innovative practices.
  • Attain and keep current, relevant technology certifications.
  • Perform special projects, after-hours support and upgrades, and other duties as assigned
