Job summary

University of Maryland College Park is seeking a mid-level IT Network Engineer to design, implement, and support wired and wireless infrastructure. The role includes life cycle management of routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless systems, plus documentation and run books.

The engineer will present technical topics, mentor colleagues, and join on-call rotations. A Bachelor’s degree is required with 3 years of relevant experience; Master’s is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • 3 years of professional network design, implementation, and escalation support.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Aruba, Cisco routers/switches and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and basic software development concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and implement wired and wireless network infrastructure improvements.
  • Document designs, run books, requirements, and tests; keep diagrams up to date.
  • Present technical topics to mixed audiences; mentor colleagues as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when required.
