Job summary

Clarkson University is seeking an IT Infrastructure Technician to install and maintain physical data and telephony infrastructure, including cabling, network electronics, and VoIP devices. The role provides hands-on level-1 and entry-level level-2 support under supervision of senior staff and maintains accurate records of equipment.

Based in Potsdam, NY, the position may require occasional night and weekend hours to support campus needs.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary education (high school) or equivalent.
• Vocational education as electrician or telecommunications technician is preferred.
• Industry certification such as CompTIA Network+ is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test Cat3 and higher cable and components within a campus network.
• Perform switch-port moves, adds, and changes with VLAN assignments.
• Assist with installation, patching, and deployment of switches, routers, and wireless access points.
• Troubleshoot first-level network connectivity issues and escalate to senior staff when needed.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment, cable plant, and port/IP assignments.
