Job Summary:
The field technician role combines responsibilities of a bench technician and requires adaptability across all aspects of the computing environment. The technician should be able to communicate solutions effectively to customers. The primary responsibility is providing technical support related to computer systems, hardware, software, applications, and more. This includes responding to tickets via a ticketing system, analyzing issues, isolating problems, and implementing solutions. The technician must be comfortable communicating on the phone, supporting customers, and possess a good understanding of business technology.
Essential Functions:
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues across workstations, mobile devices, operating systems, software, hardware, and peripherals.
- Provide customer support using remote connection software.
- Document each customer interaction thoroughly.
- Prioritize ticket resolution by following SOPs and KB articles.
- Meet or exceed KPI goals.
- Troubleshoot issues such as advanced desktop problems, VPN connectivity, entry-level server support, hardware issues, and line of business support.
- Perform onsite repairs, maintenance, and security tasks, including physical cleaning and software diagnosis.
- Conduct physical networking tasks like running network cables, understanding wiring schemas, tools, and layouts.
- Analyze and investigate problems.
- Install physical equipment such as networking patch panels and racks.
- Repair or replace faulty hardware.
- Install, reinstall, or reprogram software as needed.
- Test and verify solutions.
- Backup data to restore functionality.
- Provide recommendations for equipment health.
- Create technical documentation or materials as needed.
- Follow-up with customers after implementing solutions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Practical knowledge of hardware assembly, disassembly, and maintenance.
- Proficiency with Windows OS installation, recovery, setup, and updating.
- Knowledge of security and firewall technologies, including installation and updates.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other major software suites.
- Understanding of server applications like Active Directory, Exchange, MS Server.
- Troubleshooting skills in operating systems and hardware.
- Experience with spyware, antivirus removal, and spam control.
- Ability to troubleshoot Windows OS installations and hardware failures.
- Valid Driver's License.
Education and Experience:
- Certifications such as A+, Net+, Sec+, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with modern operating systems.
- Deep understanding of business networking.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and File Sharing.
- General understanding of technology for small to medium businesses.
- Virtualization experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Dexterity to operate computer equipment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see regularly.
- Use of hands for typing.
- Occasional physical activities like stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Work Environment/Conditions:
- Typical office environment with steady conversation and interruptions.
Travel Requirements: Onsite to local client premises.
