Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island seeks a kitchen lead staff member to assist with meal planning and preparation for residents and visitors. Responsibilities include food prep, kitchen cleaning, dishwashing, storage, and supervising student workers in a remote educational setting.

Qualifications

  • Eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Background checks for criminal and driving history required by UNH.
  • Interest in remote educational environment and island operations.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proven organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare up to 20 meals per week for 100 residents and visitors on Appledore Island.
  • Participate in meal planning, food preparation, transportation, kitchen cleaning, dish washing and storage.
  • Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.
  • Supervise student workers and volunteers.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and foster an inclusive, welcoming environment.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Be available for consultation and emergency response on scheduled days and on vessels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
