Job summary

The Nature Conservancy operates a Palmyra Preserve hospitality program, hiring seasonal staff to manage facilities, food service, and guest experiences on a remote island. Roles include galley cleaning, meal preparation for guests and staff, inventory control, and safety responsibilities.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and at least 1 year of culinary experience, plus food safety certification. On-island housing is provided during the contract term.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and at least 1-year culinary experience in a professional food services environment within the last 5 years or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of kitchen operations including meal presentations, baking, sautéing, grilling, and safe knife handling.
• Sanitary kitchen work environment and knowledge of a facility deep cleaning process. ServeSafe or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare facilities to receive visitors; daily galley clean-up and deep cleaning of cabins and living areas.
• Plan and prepare high-quality meals for guests, staff, and volunteers.
• Track inventory, stock food items, rotate inventory for safety and efficiency.
• Respond to medical emergencies and other duties as assigned.
• Produce high quality meals from a simple inventory with creativity using canned/packaged items.
