An AmLaw 50 law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property - Patents Practice in New York. This hybrid role leverages a strong technical background in electronics or physics to advise leading clients in emerging technologies.

The candidate will draft and prosecute patent applications, perform novelty searches, and support portfolio management, with mentorship and opportunities to grow as an IP strategist.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with excellent academic record.
• 2+ years of substantive patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Experience in data science, machine learning, AI, wireless communications, sensors/semiconductors, IoT, optics or related fields is highly advantageous.
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications with inventors and attorneys in emerging technology areas.
• Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors.
• Perform novelty and clearance searches to delineate inventions.
• Draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the USPTO.
• Prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record
• 2+ years of substantive experience in patent preparation and prosecution
• Experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, Internet of Things,optics, or related fields is highly advantageous
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and writing skills, with an exceptional attention to technical detail and effective organizational and communication skills
