Job summary

Intellectual Property Patent Agent role with a leading AmLaw 50 IP practice is open to multiple locations and offers hybrid work. The candidate will assist with patent preparation and prosecution in cutting-edge tech areas, collaborating with inventors and attorneys to capture and protect key inventions.

Strong technical background and excellent communication are required. Qualified applicants bring relevant engineering or physics degrees, 2+ years of patent experience, and proficiency with MS

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record
• 2+ years of substantive experience in patent preparation and prosecution
• Experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, IoT, optics or related fields is highly advantageous
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Strong analytical, writing and communication skills with attention to technical detail

Responsibilities

• Work with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications in emerging technology areas
• Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors
• Perform novelty and clearance searches to delineate inventions from existing technologies
• Draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the USPTO
• Prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record
• 2+ years of substantive experience in patent preparation and prosecution
• Experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, Internet of Things, optics, or related fields is highly advantageous
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and writing skills, with an exceptional attention to technical detail and effective organizational and communication skills
