As a Smart Shop Exempt Department Manager, you will oversee operations in departments such as perishables, center store, inventory flow, receiving, and shelf edge, focusing on your area of expertise (e.g., produce, market, front end).

What is the work?
Management:
  • Make employment-related and business decisions using independent judgment, including strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, and resolving partner matters
  • Manage staffing and training in your focus area
  • Review financial and performance reports, identify opportunities and issues
  • Manage audits and findings related to Operational Review Team (ORT)
  • Conduct detailed store/department walks
  • Maintain work instructions for your focus area
  • Monitor inventory estimates and DSD accounting
  • Foster ownership mentality across your department and the store
  • Create weekly schedules aligned with business needs
  • Operate in a cross-functional environment
  • Ensure proper inventory levels, order products, and perform quality checks
  • Participate in store leadership to align total store plans
  • Support leadership and department teams with a total store mindset
Sales / Strategy:
  • Manage operations, monitor shrink, safety, and quality assurance
  • Create and follow up on actionable plans
  • Serve as Brand Promise Champion
Customer Service:
  • Focus on partner and customer relationships, collaboration, and communication
  • Model and promote superior customer service
  • Identify and develop future talent
  • Engage actively with the community
Area of Focus / Department:
  • Manage center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge
  • Assist in weekly execution of merchandiser planner
  • Organize and plan using daily forecasts
  • Lead inventory flow team to maximize productivity
Other Departments:
  • Manage front end operations to ensure customer service and efficiency
  • Oversee meat market, produce, bakery, and total store operations, ensuring safety and quality standards are met
What is your background?
  • Completion of H-E-B's or JVSS's Management Training Program
  • Operational/retail management experience
  • Leadership in complex environments with multiple direct reports
  • Understanding of retail accounting, inventory, and shrink control
  • Leadership, interpersonal skills, and flexibility to work various shifts
Training required:
  • Successful completion of JVSS or H-E-B School of Retail Management (SORM)
Physical and Work Environment:

Includes lifting, bending, pushing, standing for long periods, and working in various conditions with moderate noise levels. Accommodations can be provided for disabilities.
