Job Description

As a Smart Shop Exempt Department Manager, you will oversee department operations, which may include perishable departments, center store, Inventory Flow, Receiving, and Shelf Edge, with a focus on your area of expertise (e.g., produce, market, front end).

Responsibilities include:

• Making employment-related and business decisions using independent judgment, including product and department strategies, hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and partner matters.
• Managing staffing and training for your area.
• Reviewing financial and performance reports to identify opportunities and issues.
• Managing audits and findings related to the Operational Review Team (ORT).
• Conducting detailed store and department walks.
• Maintaining work instructions and monitoring inventory and DSD accounting.
• Creating weekly schedules to meet business needs.
• Operating in a cross-functional environment.
• Ensuring proper inventory levels, ordering products, and quality control.
• Participating in store leadership to align total store plans.
• Supporting leadership with a total store mindset.

Sales / Strategy

• Monitoring operations such as craftsmanship, shrink, safety, and quality assurance.
• Developing actionable plans and following up on potential issues.
• Serving as a Brand Promise Champion.

Customer Service

• Focusing on partner and customer relationships, communication, and education.
• Promoting active engagement with the community and developing future talent.

Department Focus Areas:

• Inventory Flow: Managing center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge; executing merchandising plans; leading the inventory team for efficiency.
• Front End: Managing overall front end operations, ensuring customer service and efficient throughput.
• Market: Overseeing meat market operations, food safety, and specialty meat knowledge.
• Produce / Bakery: Managing produce and bakery operations, planning production, and ensuring food safety.
• Total Store: Ensuring store cleanliness, safety, sanitation, pest control, and proper supplies.

Qualifications:

• Completion of H-E-B's or JVSS's Management Training Program.
• Operational/retail management experience.
• Leadership experience with multiple direct reports.
• Understanding of retail accounting, inventory, and shrink control.
• Leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and flexibility to work varied schedules including nights.

Training:

• Successful completion of JVSS or H-E-B School of Retail Management (SORM).

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads, bend, push/pull, kneel, squat, stand, and walk for long periods. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
