Job Description

Summary: Joe V's Smart Shop is a Division of H-E-B, the largest independent food retailer in Texas. As a Smart Shop Exempt Department Manager, you will oversee department operations which could include perishable departments, center store, Inventory Flow, Receiving, and Shelf Edge, with a specific emphasis in your area of expertise.

Responsibilities
  1. Management: Majority of the time spent using independent judgment in making employment-related and business decisions, including product and department-related strategies, hiring, promoting, and resolving Partner-related matters.
  2. Manages people, staffing, and training for area of focus.
  3. Review and analyze financial and performance reports, identifies and follows up on opportunities/issues.
  4. Conducts detailed store and/or department walks.
  5. Monitors and reports on inventory estimates and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) accounting.
  6. Creates weekly schedules to meet the needs of the business.
  7. Ensures proper order and inventory levels within your department.
  8. Participates in the store leadership team to ensure coordination, integration, and alignment of total store plans.
Sales / Strategy
  1. Manages operations in area of focus; monitors craftsmanship, shrink, safety, and quality assurance.
  2. Creates actionable plans and follows up on 'What Ifs.'
  3. Serves as the Brand Promise Champion.
Customer Service
  1. Focuses on Partner/customer relationships, collaboration, communication, and education.
  2. Models superior customer service across store departments.
  3. Identifies and develops future talent.
Area of Focus / Department
  1. Inventory Flow: Manages and responsible for center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge.
  2. Front End: Manages overall front end operations ensuring customer service with efficient throughput.
  3. Market: Manages overall meat market operations ensuring food safety compliance.
  4. Produce / Bakery: Manages overall produce and bakery operations ensuring food safety compliance.
  5. Floor (total store): Ensures a proper store close, evening replenishment, and appropriate store conditions are maintained.
Background Requirements
  1. Completion of H-E-B's or JVSS's Management Training Program.
  2. Operational/Retail Management experience.
  3. Leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports.
  4. Thorough understanding of retail accounting.
  5. Experience in ordering, inventory maintenance, and shrink control.
  6. Leadership skills including people leadership, ownership mentality, and adaptability.
  7. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts.
Training Required

Successful completion of JVSS or H-E-B School of Retail Management (SORM).

Physical Requirements

Includes lifting moderate to heavy loads, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling, squatting, and standing/walking for long periods of time.
