Job summary

The City of West Allis Department of Public Works is seeking an Inventory Services Specialist to manage thousands of parts and materials, supporting Fleet and other divisions to keep city infrastructure running smoothly.

You will purchase stock, track inventory, receive and inspect goods, operate forklifts, run audits, and collaborate across departments to prevent work stoppages. Opportunities for growth and skill development are offered.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.
  • Wisconsin driver’s license; ability to obtain CDL, forklift, UST operator cert, and NIMS training after hire.
  • At least one year of warehousing experience.
  • Prior automotive parts experience preferred.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with diverse colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Research, locate, and purchase stock and non-stock parts for multiple Public Works divisions.
  • Pull, deliver, organize, and track inventory to fulfill department requests.
  • Receive, inspect, unload, sort, and log incoming materials.
  • Use computerized systems to record inventory, generate purchase orders, and maintain data accuracy.
  • Monitor fuel system, issue fuel fobs, and maintain fueling equipment.
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move materials safely.
  • Conduct inventory audits and help set reorder points.
  • Coordinate with departments, vendors, and contractors to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Handle returns and prepare items for outgoing shipments.
  • Maintain a safe, organized storeroom and respond to occasional emergency needs.
