The City of Lake Stevens is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist to oversee inventory flows and ensure efficient operations within the Public Works Department. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Procure,maintain, and track equipment and goods, ensuringaccurateprocurement records for department operations.
Identifyspecifications, compare prices, place orders, andmaintainvendor relationships to ensure quality and cost efficiency.Procurecontracts forpublic works services,including landscape maintenance, sidewalk/roadwaymaintenance, facilities maintenanceand other contracts as assigned.
Order supplies for maintenance, equipment upkeep, and operational needs of four maintenance crews(streets, storm, facilities, on-call).
Receive, inspect, and track deliveries, resolving issues likedamagedor incomplete orders before invoice submission.
Process invoices,allocateissued items, conduct inventory audits, and track usage to prevent fraud or misuse.
Maintain the Public Works shop, refueling system, and small equipment, ensuringorderly andproper storage and usage.
Facilitate surplus/disposal of goods per City policies and ensure compliance with purchasing procedures, asset trackingand risk management requirements.
Ensure work aligns with City policies, conduct trend analysis for inventory needs, andmaintainreliable attendance. Manageuser guidesand safety data sheets for equipment,toolsor materials.
Track fleet maintenance, set recurring maintenance intervals and ensure customer service requirements are achieved.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Assist the Equipment Mechanicwithbasic maintenance of equipment including changes of fluids and simple repairs.
Assist the Equipment Mechanic to ensure that fleet vehicles are equipped with safety equipment, includingfirst-aid kits, fire extinguishers,flaresand incident report forms.
Serve as an on-call employee in emergency situations requiring Public Works attention.
Perform Public Works inspections as assigned.
Performotherduties as assigned.

Education, Trainingand Experience Guidelines
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.is required. Anassociate degree or bachelor’s degree in accounting,Business Administration,Logistics,Supply Chain Management,orarelated field ispreferred.
Experience: Minimum two(2)years ofinventory controlexperiencein awarehouse or similar place of employment.An associate’s degreemay substitute for up to two(2)yearsofexperience.Proficiencyin word processingand spreadsheet software isrequired. Experience in automated inventory management, accounting, andpurchasingsystems is preferred.
OR: Any combination of education and experience, that providesthe applicant with thedesired skills, knowledge,and abilityrequiredto perform the job, maybe substitutedfor thesequalifications. Examples of these skills may includethe following.
Knowledge of:
Basic bookkeeping, advanced inventory control, and record-keeping procedures.
State procurement laws, City Procurement Policy, and sourcing for equipment, parts, and supplies.
Maintenance, repair, and construction methods for streets, sidewalks, storm drains, municipal buildings, and other facilities.
Function, usage, and operation of vehicles, power tools, and specialized equipment used in Public Works.
Occupational safety practices.
Lean Management or Six Sigma principles, and asset management softwareproficiency.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly in writing and speech, use diplomacy and tact, and build effective working relationships.
Receive, store,andissue materials,monitorstock levels, maintain accuraterecords, and understand purchasing procedures.
Operate, inspect, andmaintainvehicles, tools, and equipment.
Use technology and relevant software, including Outlook, Teams, and asset management systems.
Analyze processes for efficiency, follow safety protocols, adhere to City policies, and work independently or as part of a team.
Assistin training, complete required certifications, and stay updated on industry practices and tools.
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
CorrectlyutilizeEnglish grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Utilize interpersonal skills with tact, patience, courtesy,and diplomacy.
LICENSE,CERTIFICATE, or OTHERREQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License.If driver’s license is out of state,mustbe able to obtainaWashington State driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
First-Aid Certificationor the abilityobtaincertification within six(6)months of employment isrequired.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificationor ability to obtainwithin one (1) year of employment by an approved institution with a demonstrated improvementproject.
