Job summary

CHOC Children’s is seeking an Interpreter/Translator to provide oral interpretation and written translation for non-English speaking patients and their families. You will act as a cultural liaison between staff and families to ensure family-centered care within a hospital environment.

The role requires knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and the target language at a professional level, with formal interpreter training and examinations.

Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of experience interpreting and translating medical documents.
• Formal training in interpretation and translation (medical interpreter training).
• Language proficiency examinations (written and oral) required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and the target language at a professional level.
• Ability to provide sight translations and consecutive interpretation is required or preferred.
• Must be able to promote professionalism and customer service.

Job Summary

The Interpreter/ Translators is responsible for oral interpretation and written translation for non-English speaking patients and their families, and healthcare team members. Acts as a cultural liaison between department staff and families, ensuring family centered care.

Pay Range

Minimum $29.00 Midpoint $29.00 Maximum $30.00 Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

• Required: Minimum one (1) year of experience and knowledge in interpretation and translation of medical documents.
• Preferred: Previous healthcare interpretation and translation experience working in a hospital or clinical atmosphere, familiarity with hospital setting and operations is preferred. Experienced in customer service settings highly preferred.

Education

• Required: Passing of language proficiency examinations (written and oral). High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related or healthcare field, preferred. Completion of medical interpreter certificate program and/or interpretation program/degree.

Training

• Required: Formal training in interpretation and translation, completion of medical interpreter training.

• Required: Knowledge of medical terminology, required.
• Required: Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and the target language effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
• Required: Ability to provide sight translations and consecutive interpretation.
• Required: Knowledge of cultural, social and linguistic communication factors, required.
• Required: Knowledge of ethics, healthcare interpreter standards and role of the interpreter.
• Required: Ability to type, must have computer & keyboard skills, ability to use word processing software, required.

• Required: Ability to promote a high level of professionalism, care and customer service, required.

• Preferred: Ability to provide simultaneous interpretation.

Licensure
