Job summary

Hermeus is seeking a Software Engineer to own and evolve internally developed business applications, including AI-assisted code bases. You will take ownership as they transition to long-term IT support, understanding the architecture and codebase, improving maintainability and reliability, and implementing production-grade development practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience maintaining and extending existing production applications.
• Experience with modern application development frameworks and REST APIs.
• Experience with Git-based source control and SDLC practices.
• Troubleshooting applications across code, infrastructure, integrations, and data layers.
• Experience with cloud-hosted applications, preferably AWS.
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployment.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and modern deployment practices.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, encryption and secrets management.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of internally developed applications as they transition to IT.
• Learn and document existing architecture, code, integrations, data flows, and deployment processes.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing applications based on business requirements.
• Review AI-generated and rapidly developed code for reliability and security.
• Refactor or redesign components to establish sustainable production applications.
• Develop new functionality, APIs, integrations, and automation.
• Establish source control, branching, code review, testing, and release practices.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and repeatable deployment processes.
• Partner with Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, and stakeholders to meet enterprise requirements.
• Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, secrets management, backup and recovery.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Develop technical documentation and runbooks for IT support.
• Evaluate AI-assisted development tools to improve velocity without sacrificing security.
• Help establish standards for future AI-developed apps in production.
