Job summary

Hermeus is seeking a Software Engineer to own and evolve internally developed business applications, including AI-assisted or vibe-coded tools. You will inherit codebases, improve maintainability, resolve issues, and implement production-ready practices while guiding refactors and new functionality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development or application engineering experience.
• Experience with maintaining and extending existing production applications.
• Experience with REST APIs and modern frameworks.
• Experience with Git-based source control and SDLC practices.
• Experience troubleshooting across code, infrastructure, integrations and data layers.
• Experience with cloud-hosted applications, preferably AWS.
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployment.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, and secure coding practices.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of internally developed applications as they transition to IT.
• Learn and document existing architecture, code, integrations and deployment processes.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing applications based on business requirements.
• Review AI-generated and rapidly developed code for reliability and security.
• Refactor or redesign components to establish sustainable production applications.
• Develop new functionality, APIs, integrations, and automation.
• Establish source control, branching, code review, testing, and release practices.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and repeatable deployment processes.
• Partner with Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, and business stakeholders to meet enterprise requirements.
• Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, secrets management, backup and recovery.
