• Assist with annual audit requests and supporting schedules.
• Prepare monthly sales tax reconciliations and assist with filing and payment.

The Opportunity

Vaco is seeking an Interim Staff Accountant for a growing commercial services organization in the Northeast San Antonio area. This is a hands‑on accounting role supporting the day‑to‑day needs of a busy accounting team during a period of growth and organizational change.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working across general accounting and treasury‑related functions, including cash activity, reconciliations, journal entries, cost transfers, and month‑end close support. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being part of a small, collaborative team and is willing to jump in wherever needed.

Responsibilities

• Support month‑end close activities and coordination across the accounting team
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Perform bank and general ledger account reconciliations and research discrepancies
• Post daily cash receipts and wire activity
• Prepare daily cash flow reporting
• Handle positive pay uploads and resolve exceptions
• Post cost transfers and related accounting activity
• Assist with WIP schedule maintenance and reconciliations
• Support fixed asset accounting and reconciliations to operational systems
• Assist with license management and tracking for entities, contractors, and other required business licenses
• Support the accounting team through organizational and entity changes

• Assist with special accounting projects as needed

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and general ledger accounting
• Hands‑on experience with bank and account reconciliations
• Experience with cash management or treasury‑related activities, including cash receipts, wires, cash reporting, or positive pay
• Strong Excel skills
• Ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, changing environment
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with accounting, operations, customers, and vendors

Preferred Qualifications

• Construction industry accounting experience
• Exposure to WIP or percentage‑of‑completion accounting
• Experience with Spectrum ERP
• Sales tax reconciliation and filing experience
• Fixed asset accounting experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, but not required

Work Environment

This role will be onsite during the initial training and transition period. Once fully trained and up to speed, there may be an opportunity to work remotely one day per week, based on business needs and performance.

This is a hands‑on environment with a small accounting team, so we're looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, comfortable asking questions, and willing to pitch in where needed.

No travel is required.
