Job summary

Dickson County Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support instructional delivery and behavioral interventions for students with IEPs. The role operates under the supervision of a certified professional and involves flexible hours within a 200-day contract.

Responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions, maintaining organization, assisting with daily living activities, and supporting teachers in emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Experience supporting students with IEPs beneficial.
• Ability to communicate with students, parents/guardians, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instructional interventions designed by teachers to meet student goals.
• Be flexible and adapt to changing situations.
• Organize materials and manage time effectively.
• Remain calm while working with students in crisis.
• Use district-approved de-escalation strategies.
• Attend to health and physical needs of students.
• Possibly conduct classes in teacher's absence.
• Escort students to/from lunch, recess, activities, field trips.
• Lift up to 45 pounds and assist with mobility as needed.
• Navigate the school facility and utilize standard office equipment.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and supervisors.
• Make informed decisions in the absence of supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
