About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Intelligence Analyst Senior in our Intelligence Operations Directorate (IOD) Virginia Fusion Center (VFC) in Chesapeake, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting federal, state, and local law enforcement investigations in VSP Division V by conducting thorough and accurate analysis of subjects or groups engaged in criminal activity at Virginia ports.
  • Shares port security intelligence and information with federal, state, local and private sector partners with a need and right to know.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of research and analysis techniques.
Skills
  • Intermediate proficiency using personal computers and Microsoft Office applications.
Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collect, analyze, summarize, interpret and communicate information and technical data orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to diverse information sets and to produce logic-based analysis and recommendations on probable and potential trends and event outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of municipal, state, and federal personnel and representatives of other agencies and organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work semi-independently, establish priorities, and achieve high level results with limited direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and provide intelligence briefings for all levels of personnel.
  • Analytical experience to include criminal analytical training.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain federal secret security clearance.
  • Requires three-year commitment to the Virginia Fusion Center and ability to be on call for after hours as well as work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
  • General knowledge of information technology-based analysis platforms and software to produce one or more of the following: Geographic Information System (GIS) based maps, text, tables, graphs, and charts is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ports, port security or other maritime security issues desired.
  • Experience in government, business, or criminal justice to include analytical experience and criminal analytical training. Public safety experience or other broad scope of governmental experience desired.
