Job summary

HealthPoint in Washington seeks a Mental Health Therapist to deliver integrated behavioral health within a primary care team serving Renton and SeaTac. The position requires a Master’s in Social Work or Counseling and active WA licensure, with 1–3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required; 1–3 years with underserved populations or integrated care experience.
• Current credential as a Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (or Associate).
• Supervision with licensure expected within 6 months per WA DOH requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team setting.
• Comfort with the fast pace of primary care.
• Ability to communicate effectively about mental health with medical providers.
• Ability to engage patients in a therapeutic relationship.
• Experience with screening and assessment for common mental/substance use disorders.
• Knowledge of DSM-5, chemical dependency, and psychosocial treatments.
• Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing and Behavioral Activation.

Responsibilities

• Assist primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental health and substance use conditions in a primary care setting.
• Conduct initial patient visit (≈50 minutes or less); assess functioning and risk (incl. suicide/homicide) and provide evidence-based interventions.
• Maintain a caseload of patients needing ongoing mental health services and support access for new patients.
• Provide mental health care and substance abuse screening, psychoeducation, brief counseling, or psychotherapy.
• Document services in electronic records and MHITS per grant requirements.
• Track caseload and outreach to support grant work.
• Coordinate ongoing care with outside referrals for specialty care when needed.
• Consult with psychiatric providers as needed to support team-based care.
• Facilitate clinic workflows and program improvements to meet quality goals.
