Job summary

BAY AREA LEGAL SERVICES INC is seeking Intake Screeners (part-time) serving as the first point of contact for new clients. The role is 60% remote (3 days per week) after training, reporting to the CTI Supervisor and Manager.

Candidates should have strong communication, customer service, and data-entry skills to assess and refer clients appropriately. The position involves evaluating legal problems over the phone, determining eligibility, scheduling CTI appointments, and guiding eligible clients

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Good typing skills and ability to enter data into computer.
• Demonstrated ability to work under close supervision.
• Ability to work professionally with the public under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Initially assess applicants' legal problems over the telephone and check for conflicts of interest.
• Determine applicant eligibility in accordance with LSC regulations and other funding criteria.
• Timely process online applications and complete follow-up financial eligibility verification.
• Inform applicants when they are ineligible and refer to other sources of assistance.
• Schedule appointments through the CTI Unit for all eligible applicants from various service regions.
• Route eligible applicants with emergency cases to the appropriate team for assistance.
• Assist with training new screeners as requested.
