You will handle cases from intake through resolution, including discovery, motions, and trial prep, with a focus on automobile and large-loss claims. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of civil litigation experience, strong courtroom skills, and the ability to manage a high-volume docket while delivering practical, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active state bar admission.
• 3+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably defending insurers.
• Proven courtroom experience, including motion practice, depositions, and trial participation.
• Strong discovery management and litigation strategy skills.
• Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse civil litigation caseload for insurance company clients, focusing on automobile and large-loss claims.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs and other court documents; manage motion practice through hearings.
• Develop and execute case strategies, including fact investigation and budgeting.
• Conduct and respond to discovery, including interrogatories and depositions.
• Represent clients at mediations, settlement conferences and trials; negotiate settlements when appropriate.
• Collaborate with claims adjusters, experts, vendors and co-counsel.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff; review work for quality and compliance.
• Maintain clear communication with insurer clients about status, risks and strategies.
• Monitor court deadlines and local rules to ensure timely filings.
• Perform legal research and draft memoranda on coverage, liability and damages.

Insurance Defense Attorney

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Insurance Defense Attorney to represent insurer clients in civil litigation matters, with a focus on automobile and large-loss claims. The successful candidate will manage cases from intake through resolution, including discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations and trial preparation. This role requires strong litigation experience, excellent client communication and the ability to handle a high-volume docket while delivering practical, cost-effective legal solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse civil litigation caseload on behalf of insurance company clients, emphasizing automobile and large-loss claims.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs and other court documents; handle motion practice through hearings and rulings.
• Develop and execute case strategies, including fact investigation, evidence preservation, witness preparation and case budgeting.
• Conduct and respond to discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production and deposition preparation.
• Represent clients at mediations, settlement conferences and trials; negotiate favorable settlements when appropriate.
• Collaborate with claims adjusters, retained experts, vendors and co-counsel to build and defend client positions.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals and support staff; delegate tasks and review work product for quality and compliance.
• Maintain consistent and clear communication with insurer clients regarding case status, risks, budgets and recommended strategies.
• Monitor court deadlines and dockets to ensure timely filings and compliance with local rules and procedures.
• Perform legal research and draft persuasive legal memoranda and client advisories on coverage, liability and damages issues.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar in good standing.
• 3+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably defending insurance carriers; experience with automobile and large-loss matters strongly preferred.
• Proven courtroom experience, including motion practice, depositions and trial participation.
• Demonstrated proficiency in discovery management and litigation strategy development.
• Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with insurance defense practice areas, including coverage disputes, subrogation, and statutory/regulatory considerations.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
• Strong client service orientation with the ability to explain complex legal issues in practical terms.
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff is a plus.
• Competency with case management and e-discovery tools; comfortable using legal research databases and MS Office applications.
