Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s Los Angeles Refinery in Carson, CA, seeks an Instrumentation Project Engineer to lead instrumentation projects from concept through detailed design, construction, and commissioning. The role reports to the Area Instrument Engineering Manager and supports TAR, maintenance outages, and process safety initiatives.

The position offers 9/80 or 4/1 schedules, with core hours 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and occasional after-hours calls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of post-degree instrumentation engineering experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or similar industry.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Execute instrumentation projects aligned with refinery objectives and compliance requirements.
• Apply project management skills across development, justification, design, construction, and start-up.
• Provide instrumentation technical support to operating units and capital projects.
• Manage multiple projects safely, within budget, and on schedule.
• Design instrumentation, develop datasheets, and prepare technical requisitions.
• Support process safety activities including MOC, PSI, SIS lifecycle; participate in HAZOP/LOPA.
• Support testing, FAT/SAT, loop checks, calibration, and startup activities.
