BronxWorks is a community nonprofit in New York City providing programs across workforce development, youth, families, seniors, and homeless prevention. BronxWorks Cornerstone centers offer engaging youth services in partnership with NYCHA and other nonprofits.

BronxWorks seeks a Youth Programs Assistant to support academic goals, help design and evaluate activities, and engage participants in evening and weekend programs.

Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology.
  • Experience in youth services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the academic goals of the participants under the Program Coordinator.
  • Contribute to high quality programming; assist with program goals, design and evaluations.
  • Engage participants during evening and weekend activities, trips and workshops.
  • Create a nurturing, supportive environment for participants.
  • Plan and facilitate staff meetings, orientations, trips and events with leadership.
  • Build relationships with parents and families of participants.
  • Attend internal and external agency meetings and trainings.
  • Submit monthly reports to supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.

Our Cornerstone community center youth programs are designed to provide engaging, high-quality youth services in partnership with NYCHA and our strong network of nonprofit providers across the City. The Cornerstone adult programs are designed to enhance skills and promote social interaction, community engagement, and physical activity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Program Coordinator to support the academic goals of the participants.
  • Help ensure for high quality programming. Offer input on program goals, program design, and evaluations of program activities.
  • Engage participants during evening and weekend program in various activities, trip outings and workshops.
  • Create a nurturing and supportive environment for the participants.
  • Work with the leadership team to plan and facilitate staff meetings, orientation, trips, events, etc.
  • Develop and build relationships with parents and families of program participants.
  • Attend internal and external agency meetings and trainings.
  • Submit reports as required including monthly reports to supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 months to 1-year experience working in youth services
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
