Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is seeking a Psychiatric Technician for in-patient psychiatry on nights (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.), with alternating weekends.

The role involves observing adult patients, providing care, and collaborating with Behavioral Health staff to ensure safety and treatment goals. Responsibilities include 1:1 observation, documentation of patient behavior, applying restraints as trained, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting the nursing team to develop individual care plans.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work with Behavioral Health patients.
• Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention technique.
• First Aid Training.
• BLS Certification.
• De-escalation Training.
• Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Occasionally push/pull up to 75 lbs.
• Frequently bend, squat, kneel and occasionally reach above shoulders.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and observation in a psychiatric unit.
• Document patient behavior and status during 1:1 observation.
• Apply restraints in accordance with policy and training.
• Maintain patient confidentiality per NYS and Federal guidelines.
• Assist with transporting patients and delivering supplies as needed.
• Complete admissions paperwork, daily census, and charting.
• Work as part of the Behavioral Health team to support care plans.
