Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue, NY is seeking a Psychiatric Technician for Behavioral Health to join our night shift (7PM-7AM) on a full-time basis. The role works with the Behavioral Health team to observe and care for adult patients in a fast-paced acute setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification is a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with Behavioral Health patients.
• Must have First Aid and BLS certifications.
• Experience with de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
• Ability to perform 1:1 observation and document observations.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in the Behavioral Health setting.
• Identify unusual behavior and communicate observations to RN.
• Document patient behavior and changes during 1:1 observation.
• Apply restraints appropriately on an annual basis.
• Follow hospital policies on restraint, seclusion, and observation.
• Recognize and report communication problems and patient status changes.
• Protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Make rounds and report updates to the nurse in charge.
• Assist in developing individual master treatment plans with the team.
• Contribute to a safe environment and assist with daily activities as needed.
• Set limits under nursing direction and support patient rights.
• Complete 1:1 on units, ED, or other departments as required by management.
• Ensure documentation for 1:1 and frequent observation is complete.
