Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking a Full-time Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture, fingersticks, and heelsticks with emphasis on patient safety and accurate labeling. You will prioritize STAT draws, ensure timely specimen transport, and maintain a clean, organized phlebotomy area while assisting in training new staff.

The role requires high school education, plus preferred phlebotomy certification and 1 year of experience.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of four (4) years of high school education preferred.
• One (1) year of full time experience preferred.
• Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick) according to established procedure of South Shore Hospital.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
• Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport of specimens to lab for testing.
• Utilizes computers for order entry and lab-related tasks with attention to data accuracy.
• Organizes assigned work and completes workload statistics by end of shift.
• Assists coworkers and communicates with lab departments to ensure orderly workflow.
• Under supervision assists in training new employees and student interns in phlebotomy duties.
• Follows all organizational and department policies and procedures.
• Reads and adapts to changes in assignments and may perform work of lesser responsibility when workload requires.
• Acts as receptionist in outpatient lab when required, greeting patients and answering phones.
• Maintains daily cleanliness of equipment and phlebotomy areas, restocking as needed.
• Records daily refrigerator temperatures and reports anomalies.
• Shows openness to technology and safety initiatives as part of the role.

Education
