Job summary

Advocate Health's IL ACL Laboratories – Good Samaritan site is hiring a Phlebotomy Technician for a full-time day shift. Start times range from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., with an 8.5-hour shift and rotating weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience with software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Ensures proper labeling and specimen identification; handles requisitions and problems.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to policy.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Receives, sorts, and transports specimens; prepares for testing and instrument loading.
• Documents test requests; conducts quality control checks; notifies providers of critical results.
• Trains employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
