Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts—Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center, Fall River Site—seeks a Mental Health Worker I to provide day-to-day direct care on a 16-bed inpatient unit for adults with serious mental illness.

Under RN/LPN supervision, you will support treatment plans, teach daily living skills, and help with activities and safety checks in an acute care setting. We value strong therapeutic communication, de-escalation skills, and the ability to work second shift (2:45 pm–11:15

Qualifications

• Bilingual abilities in Portuguese, Spanish, or Khmer are desirable.
• Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness in inpatient settings.
• Training in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
• Certified Nursing Assistant training or direct care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide programmatic direct care, teaching daily living skills to foster independence.
• Support treatment plans by reporting observations and assisting with activities.
• Encourage participation in active treatment and leisure activities per plan.
• Conduct safety checks and 1:1 observation; report changes to the charge nurse.
• Respond to behavioral or medical emergencies using de-escalation and basic first aid.
