Job summary

Cedars-Sinai seeks an experienced Hospital Inpatient Coder to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes by reviewing patient documentation. The role identifies the principal diagnosis, comorbidities, and sequencing to determine the DRG, reflecting MS-DRG and APR-DRG guidelines.

Responsibilities include reviewing documentation in EPIC and related systems, abstracting data for reporting, and collaborating with the CDI team to ensure complete and accurate coding.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years' work experience doing code assignment in a healthcare setting performing similar coding duties required.
• Registered Health Info Tech, Registered Health Info Admin, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Coding Spec Phys required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes within productivity and quality standards.
• Identify principal diagnosis, comorbidities/complications, and determine code sequencing for DRG.
• Maintain knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG classifications and SDoh/HCC relevance.
• Abstract data elements for reporting and statistical capture in the health system's systems.
• Collaborate with the CDI team to align clinical and coding approaches.
• Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and seek physician clarity.
