Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a medical coder to perform thorough medical record reviews and apply ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures. The role involves abstracting data, entering it into the system, and supporting cash flow through accurate coding.

Minimum qualifications include a high school/GED, 1 year in hospital coding, and CCS or CIC certification. A preferred associate degree in health information management is noted. A sign-on bonus may be offered.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• At least 1 year in hospital coding.
• Completion of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology courses.
• CCS or CIC certification required.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and data entry skills.
• Proficient with common computer applications.
• Ability to collaborate with health care team.

Responsibilities

• Review and assign ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures (65%).
• Abstract data elements and enter into the designated system (15%).
• Manage unbilled coding reports and cash flow (10%).
• Stay updated on ICD guideline changes and training (5%).
• Perform additional duties as assigned (5%).
