University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Coding Specialist III to review and code inpatient and outpatient records. This role requires expert knowledge in ICD-10 CM/PCS coding and adherence to Official Coding Guidelines, with mentoring responsibilities for junior staff.

The position emphasizes high-quality, compliant coding in a hospital setting, with opportunities to contribute to process improvements and training.

Qualifications

• Experience: 3–5 years acute hospital-based coding experience.
• Remote environment experience required for PRN Coders.
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS certifications upon hire.

Responsabilités

• Code inpatient accounts using ICD-10 CM/PCS per guidelines.
• Identify admit/principal diagnosis and procedures for DRG, reflect CC/MCC and POA status.
• Abstract data elements including discharge disposition, procedure dates, and physician details.
• Determine when physician queries are needed and route accordingly.
• Maintain quality and productivity standards in HIM Coding.
• Mentor/train on designated coding service lines as requested.
• Maintain expert knowledge of coding guidelines and practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
