Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder responsible for assigning accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient encounters based on documentation in the EMR, while complying with regulatory guidelines.

The role requires RHIT/RHIA/CCS certification and at least one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program. Proficiency with EHRs and encoder software is preferred.

Qualifications

• RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification required.
• One year inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program.
• Associate degree in CAHIIM accredited program or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Interact with coding team and stakeholders.
• Participate in coding education meetings and share knowledge.
• Code and abstract inpatient records accurately per policy and guidelines.
• Query physicians to obtain/clarify diagnoses and procedures.
• Maintain high coding quality and AHIMA-standard compliance.
