Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Senior Outpatient Coder to assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes for day surgery and observation encounters, using the electronic medical record and encoder applications.

The role requires three years of outpatient coding experience or completion of our transition program, with AHIMA or AAPC certifications and an associate or higher degree in health information management.

Qualifications

• Three years of outpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Senior Outpatient Coder Transition Program
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC certifications required
• Associate degree or higher in AHIMA- or HIM-accredited program or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnostic and procedural codes for day surgery and observation encounters
• Ensure coding quality and compliance with AHIMA guidelines
• Query physicians to obtain/clarify diagnoses or procedures
• Maintain accurate EHR/encoder data and support AR metrics
