Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Saint Paul, MN is seeking an experienced Inpatient Hospital Based Coder to join our team on the day shift. This 1.0 FTE role codes inpatient records using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, employing encoder and CAC software, researching complex cases and querying physicians for clarification.

The coder analyzes documentation, assigns diagnoses and procedures, supports revenue cycle, and helps ensure compliance with regulatory and payer reporting.

Qualifications

• Certificate program in coding or associate degree in HIM.
• 3+ years of inpatient coding experience.
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CIC certifications are preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Windows-based software.
• Keeping CEU’s up to date.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and codes inpatient records using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS per guidelines and Fairview standards.
• Identifies and resolves documentation discrepancies to ensure accuracy of SOI/ROM and data integrity.
• Initiates provider queries with CDI staff to improve code specificity.
• Validates CAC output for accuracy and supports timely record processing.
• Demonstrates understanding of diseases, meds, labs to support code assignment.
• Assists in education of physicians and staff regarding documentation and regulations.
• Collaborates with revenue cycle to ensure timely claim submission and accurate charges.
