Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education, a ChanceLight company, is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to serve elementary students in our alternative education setting. The role centers on delivering targeted instruction, designing personalized lesson plans, and aligning with state standards while supporting diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities include co-teaching, using innovative curricula and software, tracking progress, and maintaining comprehensive records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field.
• Licensed or in process of obtaining IL professional educator (PEL).
• Licensed or in process of obtaining IL SSE or LBS1.
• Ability to obtain and maintain crisis management training certification.
• Experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction in special/alternative education.
• Experience with special education services and compliance for diverse needs.
• Experience with IEPs and related planning.
• Proven success in developing education plans for at-risk students.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to think quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Knowledge of instructional technology and MS Office; basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Create inclusive, collaborative learning environments involving families and staff.
• Model PBIS within classroom and school-wide contexts.
• Implement PBIS strategies and appropriate consequences.
• Track and document student progress and generate reports.
• Deliver differentiated instruction for IEP goals; co-teach when needed.
• Adapt curricula to diverse learning needs and coach staff on differentiation.
• Utilize educational software and varied resources to engage students.
• Manage IEP caseloads and develop/interventions.
• Prepare detailed daily lesson plans aligned to standards.
• Maintain organized, safe, welcoming classrooms; manage supplies.
