Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education seeks a Special Education Teacher to lead instructional planning for elementary students with IEPs. You will design personalized lessons, integrate educational software, and deliver targeted instruction within learning centers or classrooms to meet state standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state special education (SSE) or learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
• Prior experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
• Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
• Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).
• Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for at‑risk students with diverse needs.
• Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students to move them toward realistic goals.
• Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision‑making ability.
• Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Creating an inclusive, collaborative environment involving students, parents, colleagues, and administrators in the educational process.
• Establishing a classroom climate built on mutual respect, fairness, and clear expectations, emphasizing social development and PBIS.
• Implementing school-wide and classroom PBIS strategies, behavior expectations, reward systems, and consequences.
• Tracking and documenting student progress, maintaining accurate student files, and generating reports.
• Delivering differentiated instruction individually or in co‑teaching to meet IEP‑specified goals.
• Modifying curricula and instructional approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
• Utilizing varied instructional methods and software to support diverse student needs.
• Managing student caseloads, developing and implementing IEPs, goals and interventions.
• Preparing detailed daily lesson plans and organizing instructional materials.
• Maintaining an organized, safe classroom environment and managing supplies and resources.
• Staying informed on research-based instructional practices and ongoing professional growth.
• Responding to feedback from evaluations and observations to improve effectiveness.
• Supporting school community with additional duties as assigned.
