Job summary

Ombudsman Educational Services is seeking a Special Education Teacher for our Elementary School learning center. Lead instructional planning, deliver differentiated instruction, and design personalized learning experiences for students with IEPs.

You will collaborate with staff to align with state standards, utilize educational software, and develop comprehensive lesson plans and schedules for diverse student needs. A supportive environment encourages innovation and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state special education (SSE) or learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in crisis management training.
• Prior experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education or behavioral health program setting.
• Prior experience and knowledge in special education services and compliance for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
• Experience with students with IEPs and developing education plans for at‑risk students with diverse needs.
• Strong motivational skills and ability to discuss progress with students.
• Advanced communication, organization, problem solving and decision making skills.
• Ability to respond calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.

Responsibilities

• Create an inclusive, collaborative classroom environment with involvement from students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
• Establish a respectful classroom climate focusing on social development and PBIS.
• Implement and reinforce PBIS strategies, rewards, and appropriate consequences.
• Track student progress, maintain files, and generate progress reports.
• Deliver targeted instruction for IEP-specified goals, including co-teaching when needed.
• Adapt curricular content and instructional approaches to diverse learning needs.
• Utilize varied instructional methods and educational software to engage students.
• Manage caseloads and develop/update IEPs, goals and interventions.
• Prepare daily lesson plans and organized instructional materials.
• Maintain a safe, organized classroom and manage resources.
• Stay informed on best practices in special education and related areas.
• Respond to feedback from evaluations and pursue professional growth.
• Support school community with additional duties as assigned.
