Job summary

Williamson County is seeking a Financial Assistant to support the jail with financial reporting, bookkeeping, and routine administrative tasks. You will manage inmate account cash flow, assist with commissary operations, process invoices, and prepare financial statements, while maintaining GAAP standards.

Reporting to the Senior Financial Assistant, the role requires a high school diploma, 3 years of clerical/accounting experience, CJIS certification within 30 days, and successful completion of

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of clerical experience including accounting and financial duties.
• Working knowledge of financial applications.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cash flow of inmate accounts (intake, purchases, third-party release).
• Monitor commissary applications and assist with kiosk/inmate commissary portal operations.
• Audit and process invoices.
• Prepare financial reports and balance sheets.
• Create purchase orders; maintain forms and materials.
• Apply medical billing and internal bill-of-sale to inmate accounts.
• Monitor banking for accuracy; manage debits/credits.
• Complete month-end account monetary collections.
• Process, track, and submit deposits to treasurer/banks.
• Interpret financial data; research discrepancies and provide solutions.
• Maintain scanned document folders.
• Process refunds to appropriate parties/public.
• Maintain knowledge of GAAP.
• Provide direct customer service in-person and by phone.
• Coordinate with accounts payable, treasurer’s office, and medical dept.
• Attend meetings/trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
